About the Program
In partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden offers a unique plant science education program through BioTECH Senior High School : the first conservation biology high school with a focus on botany and zoology. This innovative program, established in 2014 with support from the U.S. Department of Education’s Magnet Schools of America program, integrates hands-on plant studies into the students’ existing curriculum, contributing to their graduation requirements.
Students have the opportunity to design and conduct their own plant investigations during regular class time at Fairchild, utilizing the Garden’s extensive resources such as the Million Orchid Project, Growing Beyond Earth, and the Native Plant Network. Additionally, participants gain exclusive access to the Garden’s living collections 7 days a week and have the opportunity to earn volunteer hours through their involvement.
